How do you break into TV as a writer? The most likely path is to join the staff of an existing show. To win those jobs, you need samples of your work, which means one or both of these: 1) several “spec” scripts (perfectly executed episodes of still-current shows), 2) original work (play, screenplay, or pilot episode of an original TV series). We have courses that will guide you through the process of writing both spec scripts and pilot episodes.

(Since the process of writing a spec is very different from writing a pilot, we have separate courses for each. Students should begin with TV Writing I, which focuses on spec scripts and gives students a foundation in the basics. It’s better to learn the basics with an existing show.)
